Tail wriggling in female BHP?

lichanura Feb 08, 2010 05:23 PM

I just introduced my male to the female BHP and the female is wriggling her tail and excreted a very small amount of a substance. I am trying to figure out if she is receptive or is she annoyed?

she is excited... it is a good thing...

sounds like she digs him. I've seen that behavior in womas. Balls also do this so I'd say your about to have some tender lovin' if ya get my drift. Congrats

It really depends! In my experience some females will do that whenever any other blackhead is in their space male or female and can be a dominance thing. While others it can be a good sign. How are all the other signs? Is he courting/interested or trying to get away? Any green colored spotting from the female? Have they been cycled? Any swelling or lumpiness to the female? Is she still feeding? How old and large are they?
Good luck with them!

Here is a picture of the green spotting.

I agree with Tom....could go both ways. Lots of other factors to consider.

Cheers,
D.

Thank you all for your response.

To answer some of Tom's questions, they are definitely adults at about 9 feet. They are in cycling now, he was just put in and I see no courting on his part. In previous years, he has courted and she showed no interest. The female definitely shows swelling at about two thirds down her body. As far as the green excretion, I cannot see it as they are lying on the spot and I do not want to bother them.

Thanks again for all the intelligent questions.

I edge towards it being a good thing. My womas do it a lot, but only in mating season. My male BH is still looking for a GF

So any idea what the green stuff is?? Is it just a good sign that is of unknown origins or does anybody know what it is?? I did see some last year and it was one of the reasons I brought my girl to the vet thinking she was having a blockage.

Jason, Its unknown by me at this time. I suspect some type of hormonal change prior to follicle development. I notice it in the majority of my females prior to a small swell. I was just speaking about it today and I would like to keep a much better record of exactly when I first see it compared to other signs such as food refusal, swellings, follicle growth and ovulation. Has your female gone through the motions already?

I just commented on this elswhere. My other female that did not produce last year, refused food last week, and has had some mild swelling for a while now. I just looked at her because 1)I was telling D today on the phone that she was looking skinny a couple days ago and I wanted to check her out to see how she was doing today and 2) to look for green spuge on the cage after seeing this and she is swelled up nice!!! I am all stupid smiles and crazy thoughts now!! It would be pretty crazy to me to actually produce with these two years in a row. Even without the "special" ones, this line throws some beautiful reds!! I can't wait to see if she gives me fertile eggs and then I will really go nuts waiting for them to hatch if she does!!

I always have just taken this as a sign of excitement from the snake, be it rattlesnake, indigo, Madagascar Ground Boa or python. My female BHP showed this when I introduced the male last time.

Best of luck with the BHP's.
