Clelia clelia (juvenile)

What do I win?

Brian,

Clelia clelia, the mighty mussurana. That's precisely what I thought it was too when I caught it. Upon closer inspection (scale counts) it's actually something different.

Guess again,

Terry

I'll guess Pseudoboa nueweidii (or something like that).
I'm pretty sure I've seen this photo before, but that is honestly a cold guess.

You're in the right part of the world, but it's not Psuedoboa spp.

I would have went with Pseudoboa coronata, but if it is not a Pseudoboa sp. then I have to guess it is some kind of coral snake. They are known for being highly variable in markings, so my guess is Leptomicrurus sp. or Micrurus sp.

Drepanoides anamolus!

How many nuns could a nunchuck chuck if a nunchuck could chuck a nun?

Yes, the Amazon egg-eating snake (Drepanoides anomolus). They are so easily confused with juvenile mussurana. I counted the scales on this snake probably ten times before I convinced my buddy it wasn't Clelia clelia.

Hope you had fun. This isn't a snake I was familiar with before going to Peru and I imagine a lot of you can say the same.

It had me going there for a few Terry. So when do I get the keys to my new car? LOL!
