Woma Python Breedin Q's

waspinator421 Feb 15, 2010 04:42 AM

So, my Woma girls are pretty big now, though I was planning on giving them one more year before breeding just to be on the safe side.

I am wondering, though, what is the minimum weight that the females of this species can safely breed?

Also, when do you normally put your Woma's together? I ask because I see lots of babies in the classifieds in late Spring and early Summer, so it seems the breed early in the year?

Thanks!!

at least 2 years old for females. Mine have already been breeding, starting about 2 months ago.

Aubrey -
You are going to find a LOT of conflicting info as far as weights are concerned, this is mainly due to a huge variability in female size (I have adult females ranging from 4' to over 6'). So, instead of looking at it in terms of numbers, consider age and growth rate. Once they slow in length and their body bulks up a little, they should be good to go. It is possible to have a woma produce in as little as 18months if they are extremely aggressively fed - not my recommendation, but it is possible. On a healthy feeding schedule, she will be either closing in on her third or fourth birthdays before she breeds.

They will breed across a fairly wide time period - I have known people to hatch eggs as early as March and as late as Sept. It depends a lot on the pre-conditioning of the female and cycling of the animals.

Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it.

Regardless of the varying opinions out there, would you mind giving me at least a ballpark idea of the weight? I'd like to see where my girls stand.

Aubrey, with the above post in mind, I don't typically weigh mine at all. I was hoping someone else would chime in - since they didn't, I will guess-timate for ya.

Just strictly a guess, but I think my first time breeder females are somewhere in the 1000g range before I will let them breed. I know many have bred them smaller - but I am not going to rush mine.

Anyway... hope that helps.

Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it! I had given up on an answer and hadn't checked anymore until now. I'll have to weigh my girls and see where they are. I probably wont breed until next year regardless, just wanted to see how close they were.

Thanks a bunch for the "guess-timate"!!
