Can cobras strike up?

terrylove Feb 15, 2010 03:09 PM

Last night I was laying in bed thinking of snakes-I'm sure I'm not the only one who does that-and I was thinking in particular of cobras and how they strike.

Relatively I understand cobras strike slowly in defense because they are striking in a downward motion. What about offensively? I'm assuming they don't hood while hunting so they'd be ablet o strike up right? Any cobra keepers out there want to shine some light on this for me? Then maybe I can get to sleep!

Thanks,

Terry

Cobra's can't strike upwards. Well I don't know if I should say can't. I will say I have never seen one do so. Because they strike downwards snakes charmers are able to put their hands on the animals hoods, top of their heads, and do the kiss of death amoung other things. If they had fangs hinged fangs like a viper they would be able to tag you upward easily.

My Pair of true Pure Indian Cobra's. You don't see these around anymore, the pair has been breeding non-stop lately!:

Cobras can strike up if not hooded and when hooded can go back far enough to come back up.
