Reeve's Turtle

CrimsonKennels Feb 22, 2010 02:22 PM

I just recently acquired a baby Reeve's Turtle. He is about an inch and a half long. I am currently keeping him in a sterilite sweater box with about an inch of water. The water temperature is about 75 degrees Farenheit, and he has a basking spot which reaches about 85. I am having trouble locating any good, in-depth info on their care, and was hoping anyone experienced in keeping them could give me some suggestions. Thank you.

i just got a baby reeve's myself, back in nov.last year.i kept it by itself in a 5 gal tank, but it just sat on the bottom.wouldn't swim, barely ate, would'nt bask.this went on for almost 3 wks, until i started to get real worried about it.i put it in a small community tank,w/ 2 hatchling razorback musks, and a hatchling eastern mud,and within 24 hrs,it was like the reeves was a whole new turtle.swimming, basking, eating everything.now,i don't usually endorse community tanks, but it works for the reeve's.conditions are exactly the same as before, water temo in the mid 70's,air temp about the same, plain old 65 watt incandescent for basking.i found a couple articles on the internet about reeve's,and some of them suggested reeve's are a more social turtle.i tried, and have nothing but good luck.the musks and mud do grow much faster than the reeve's,it was twice as big when first added, now all turtles are roughly the same size.

forgot to mention-they're in a 10 gal tank,with about 5 inches of water,no substrate,and a chunk of granite to bask on/hide under(it's kinda funky looking,sitting on it's side,has a shelf-like projection for them to hide under)
