That is the most absurd, assinine article, and i call that an article very loosely, that i have ever laid my eyes on. The one statement that really says that a moron wrote that thing is a person would be better off having a King Cobra than a Python!!! Nothing against the responsible keepers of King Cobras, but you get what i'm saying. I can't even get my mind around this, it's just so ludicrous.

How in God's name did you find that? That dude is out there, and the comment part is out there even more. Fruits and vegetables for food???? That thing about camels being introduced to Australia and Pythons being introduced there to control them is just a riot.

Calparsoni Feb 23, 2010 09:29 PM

Camels being introduced by the egyptians that is.... i knew they were introduced there.

Ooh! Ooh! Ouch!

BigHairy8s Feb 23, 2010 10:17 PM

Probably the biggest collection of B.S. I have ever read! Notice when you hit the contact button on this MORONS site you can't do so? People like this are why we have all these National level issues right now. Freedom of press... ain't it grand. How about shutting up until you get the facts straight! (Yah, that'll happen)

Jaykis Feb 23, 2010 10:18 PM

I think it was written by a Nigerian.

SgtStinky Feb 24, 2010 05:54 AM

"Pythons will eat just about anything. Their favorite meat is chicken, but they also enjoy turkey, ostrich, some cuts of beef and have been noticed eating scrapple."

I love scrapple too.

Come on, guys. Read the comments on the article's page...it's OBVIOUSLY a joke.

cychluraguy Feb 24, 2010 11:39 AM

Daaaaaaa! Thanx you geniuses, we all know it a joke because we know the real facts.
For the average JACKASS out there they read it and believe everything they read on the net. And next thing you know the news starts to site it as a sorce and the general public swallows it hook line and sinker.
The point of the post was to see some crazy stuff thats on the net.
Rob

harperman Feb 24, 2010 11:50 AM

Wow...you're as daft as they come.

If you re-read people's responses in this thread, you'll notice (if you have any shred of literacy at all) that some people are getting all worked up over the "facts" presented in the article. It's not that people were saying, "Hey...I know this is a joke, but that sort of information is dangerous, etc...".

You're in the wrong forum if you think being an a-hole is going to get you anywhere. Now, go do your chores before your mommy gets home and maybe she'll take you out for ice cream after your therapy appointment.

cychluraguy Feb 24, 2010 12:14 PM

Testy testy Herperman, I didn't really notice anyone getting "worked up" about it I saw several people making jokes about it. Sorry if I offended you with daaaaaaa! and genious but then you you go crazzy with the name calling!!1 LOL
So I'll just say "I am rubber you are glue"

harperman Feb 24, 2010 01:06 PM

Do you not find any irony in the fact that you spelled the word, genius, as "genious"?

Because we all do...

jscrick Feb 24, 2010 02:08 PM

What do you call this?

"You're in the wrong forum if you think being an a-hole is going to get you anywhere. Now, go do your chores before your mommy gets home and maybe she'll take you out for ice cream after your therapy appointment."

Haven't seen your name posted since I've been reading these threads. What makes you such an authority on what "is going to get you anywhere" [on this forum]?

If you've posted prior to my entry please show me where. I honestly don't recognize your user name.

I've posted here numerous times before. Also, in the boas forum.

And, are you telling me that being an a-hole WILL get you somewhere here?

Are you saying that observing activity in a forum without posting (which I do--just not regularly) isn't enough to make a judgment as to how people react to people being a-holes?

jscrick Feb 24, 2010 05:27 PM

I was inquiring as to what made you an authority as to your a-hole statement not getting someone anywhere. You have answered that to my satisfaction.

My second question was in regards to the second sentence in your comment. I kinda considered -- "Now, go do your chores before your mommy gets home and maybe she'll take you out for ice cream after your therapy appointment." being an a-hole, but I guess you didn't.

You should probably take that stuff to the forum(s) where personal attacks, insults, and belittlement -- things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand, are normal fodder.

I have to completely agree.

The biggest issue that I see with all of these TV programs is that people tend to automatically believe what they are watching is true simply because it was on TV.

In the last 4 6 months I have been involved in multiple conversations with people who argue with me about things such as how many eggs Burms lay and how frequently they lay them, etc. The funny thing is these people who are arguing with me have never even kept a Leopard Gecko let along a Burmese Python. However they saw it on TV, so it must be true. These people also know that I have been keeping large boids for well over 20 years. They know that I breed snakes, etc. But again, they saw it on TV, so it absolutely has to be true...

We have to figure out a way to get on TV and get our story out to people - the real story. The real truth.

This is simply frustrating to say the very least.

If there isn't a very noticeable disclaimer in the intros to these pseudo-documentaries; warning that -- "The following material is for entertainment purposes only...any resemblance to fact is purely coincidental", there should be. Something to that effect.

I must be gullable. Joke or not, people believe this crap. The wrong type of people who can use this kind of "joke" to make laws against owning pythons.

Calparsoni Feb 24, 2010 11:23 PM

That's what I get for being online so late at night. You do got to admit we've all heard some stupid crap out of some real idiots before. So it's not unbelievable that such info could found on a website.
I've seen Local 6 news in Orlando come up with some real unbelievable fiction before.

brd Feb 25, 2010 12:02 AM

This is what the public sees. Watch these videos. These were on our local news in recent months. Just listen to what these people say.

http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/local/hillsborough/python_captured_tampa_120609

This one even the pet store owner says burms will turn on you and are unmanageable. Funny thing is, I have sold this guy a couple hundred snakes in the last few years.

You will just love this one. This was on the news. Watch this video.

http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/my_view/My_view_python_problem_081409

This is why snakes are hated. This is what needs to stop. I don't know how to get the video to show, so follow each link and you will see.

Calparsoni Feb 25, 2010 07:16 AM

People hate snakes because people hate snakes it's just the nature of people. It's either that garden of eden thing or maybe snakes ate the heck out monkeys in Africa and there's some sort of genetic memory thing I don't know.
Having grown up in South Texas where people REALLY hate snakes I am convinced that the legal protection given to Roadrunners and indigo snakes has nothing to do with conservation and everything to with both being active rattlesnake predators. In the case of roadrunners it sure ain't because they are rare.
Having done grounds crew work here in Fl and being a herper I used to be the one they would call at one place I worked whenever they found a snake. Of course the black racers always just take off but the other common one I would find would be yellow rats. I have found that 95% of the time you can pick up a yellow rat snake without even an attempt of biting by the snake as long as your gentle with it. Several times I demonstrated this to people who would be watching the whole time while I picked up a wild snake unrestrained and walked away with it and explained that they won't hurt you if you leave it alone and they would STILL freak out even while watching what I was doing. It is just ingrained in people even though it does defy logic.

You remind me of an encounter I had with a black rat last fall. LOL!

I'm sort of out in the country, and on a long quiet road. In warm months, I frequently find snakes on the road. Usually flat, unfortunately. But one day I saw a loooooooooong black rat stretched comfortably across the warm asphalt. So I stopped to shoo him off. Only he did NOT plan on moving. He was comfy. So I took my shoes off and put them over my hands to "encourage" him. That snake struck at those shoes over and over -- NOT happy that I was disturbing his nap. I finally did get him off the road, but it was a struggle!

I have caught Yellow Rat Snakes like that, and even Red Rat Snakes (Corn Snake). But my favorite by far is the Florida King Snake. I used to go down to the suger cane fields down by Lake Okeechobee and hunt king snakes. You can walk right up on them and pick them up. Every now and then you might get bit, but not very often. That was a lot of fun. I use to sell the ones that I didn't want. There was this big reptile dealer up by Bushnell or actually Lake Panasoffkee that I would sell them to. Maybe you have heard of this guy, I think his name was Tom Crutchfield. I was hoping to go down next week, but I don't know. It wears you out by the end of the day, but it's fun.

Fear of snakes is a learned fear. You HAVE to be taught it. And, of course, it's easy to do when your elders all teach you to.

Monkeys are taught the same way.

Although it isn't proof, there is actuallly some evidence that the fear of snakes (and also spiders) is innate.
