Need help with this one

LordDreyfus Feb 24, 2010 07:26 AM

Ok. I've produced several hundred baby kenyans over the last decade. I just had a mystery pop up in my latest litter. 15 babies were born, 6 were yellows, and 9 were oranges. Of the litter 3 were born that look much paler than normal. Do I get my hopes up that this can be hypos, or do they just vary this much. Mine never had, but I've produced most of my babies from the same line of snakes. This was the first breeding for both parents. I've never produced any as pale as this.

Outstanding!

LordDreyfus Feb 24, 2010 02:13 PM

I'll keep them back and breed them back to Mom...or maybe a sibling. Both of the really washed out ones are males.

Don't know if its genetic (obviously), but even if it isn't, its still cool to me. Like I mentioned before, I've produced several hundred babies and I've never produced anything like these.

Don't be a butt Mark. You already knew who the mom was and that dad had two possibilities. No need to rub it in I can't help it if my snakes are swingers.

Absolutely right.

She tried to claim the albino was the father, but after the results came back (no albinos) we knew she was lying. We are interigating the other two prospects but both are claiming that they aren't the daddy.

I'll keep you posted

P.S. My butt is sore from kicking myself so much over the last week.

Wow. I cant say I have ever produced (or seen) kenyans like that before. You might have been one of the lucky ones and stumbled across a new mutation. Only time will tell. I would definitely breed that same pair together again next year! Would you say that all three have the same degree of washed out black? Shoot me an email at sandboa@hotmail.com. I would like to discuss them a little more in depth, if you don't mind.

Looks photoshoped to me....lol.

I'm kidding.

Hypo? We're seeing the 'washed out' look more and more.

I know Steve Perry has a nice group of Hypos he's working on but I think he's concentrating on anery, albino and snows.

Very cool. I have seen a couple individuals that looked like that but cannot remember where. I would hold on to them (or send them to me) and breed them back to each other / parents. Hopefully it proves out to be something genetic.

Very cool.... lets see some more photos.

Thanks for sharing,
Chris

Looks pretty cool. If it was a female I'd buy it. At least 2 of my pale ones turned out to be males. I have 1 yellow one I can't decide if its pale or just hasn't shed out yet.
