One of my 08 pyros. I got her and what I thought were her two siblings from the same place, but upon researching the origins and locating the breeder, he doesn't recognize her for sure, although he does recognize the other two as his.
She is supposed to be an Arizona Mt king but I have never seen any pyros that look like her.
She is a lot bigger than her "siblings", too. If anybody has a snake that looks like her please post a photo.

Here she is from June 09. She's a lot bigger now. I met up with the man who produced my other pyros (Huachuca Mts and Davis Mts locales) and he did not recognize her as from any of his stock. When I first got her in 08 I went into the snakeroom of a local reptile shop and the young man there brought out several shoeboxes of baby pyros, but I don't think she was supposed to be with the pyros. The breeder thought she was maybe part Thayeri. Whatever she is she is my favorite!

Are you sure he said he had davis mtn. pyromelana...?. I have never heard of the davis mtns. AZ...?. I could check maps, maybe a "davis Mtn." in a range, but I don't think there are any davis mtns. in AZ, anyone else know...?

I think he meant the Davis Mtns in Texas. I will have to clarify this with him. He did mention New Mexico so I may have misunderstood. Alls I know about mountains is just the ones in my own backyard, the Sierra Nevadas1 LOL!

There is a Davis Mountain on the east side of the Chiricahuas, near the Portal-Paradise Rd in suitable pyro habitat. Obviously the Davis Mtns. in Texas are totally out of the question.

Thanks, rogue_reptiles,
I think that is what the breeder meant. I have never heard of pyros in Texas! LOL! We were both in a big hurry to complete our transaction so as get back home before the incoming bad weather so I just scribbled down notes hastily. Like I said before my knowledge of geography gets petty fuzzy east of the Sierras.

For me, studying the natural history of the snakes I keep is half of the fun! If you get into locality snakes and/or want to sell them, its a requirement.

Here's a link to a pyro range map I made. I have marked Davis Mountain on there for you. I would spend some more talking with the breeder and get details so you know for sure the history of what you have.

Wow, awesome map! Have saved this link to my Favorites. Thanks ever so much! I will be talking with the breeder again soon and get things sorted.

Greg,
Nice map, and thanks for the info on Davis mtn. in the chiri's, I've actually herped through there even. I just looked at an az atlas that list the major ranges and certain known peaks, etc. and couldn't find a Davis Mtn. I'm sure I'll see it in my map of the chiri's

How to get there from Tucson.

Now I know where Davis Mountain is! LOL!
Info from Rogue_Reptiles' map.

Jeff,

There's a little bit of history to that mountain. It's close to Skeleton Canyon where Geronimo and the rest of the Chiricahua Apaches finally surrendered in the 1880's. Its also rumored to have some buried treasure from an 1800's robbery.

Thanks for the link. I have herped there-(close by) for hogs....I just don't get up early enough to see them on the rds...LOL, and then when it's time to see them again on the rds, I'm up walking for pyros...LOL. One day maybe I'll just see one on the rd on my way to get beers for the nights rd crusie....LOL.
