bismarck python eggs

oakbank Feb 28, 2010 02:31 AM

Hi
My female Bismarck Python is about to lay eggs, within the next two weeks. What sort of temp. range is most suitable for incubation of her eggs?
I have set up a polystyrene incubater ,but have used an on/off thermostat to control the temp.I have read ,in Greg Maxwell,s (the G.T.P. GUY)book, that temps should remain Very Constant! with only a few tenths of a degree oC of change being acceptable, is this the same for Bismarcks?
The temp. in my incubator seems to sit at around 30/31oC,with little change.
I am going to change the `stat` for a `dimming` one anyway, this week,`just in case`.But would love to here people,s opinions on temps.
Thanks Guys
Regards Heather

Heather,

I've never done GTP's before, but all the other pythons I've ever done, were incubated at 88.2 - 88.5 F. and all did well! I don't think a little flucuation in temp will hurt as in the wild, you get natural temp. change!

Thanks Guys
The eggs are due anytime now, I,m so worried that they,ll all be infertile again ,just like last year,14 dud eggs. However i did see the pair (tied)this year, and the big female is refusing food......"Fingers crossed"

Heather, if they are due any time now and have not rotted or solidified they are most likely not infertile. Take a picture for us!

Hi Tom
I,ll try and get some pics. when the eggs arrived...."if i can get them away from `Mrs Angry`! lol"
The strange thing is, last years eggs `looked perfect!`were all perfectly shaped, all coloured white,(no decomposure),all stuck together...but all infertile.
I kept them for two months, they didn,t go rotten, didn,t change size or colour, and when i finally cut them open ,they were just full of a kind of `yolky stuff`..didn,t even smell too bad!
But i,m keeping my fingers crossed for this years eggs....."and i did see the pair tied!"
regards Heather
