Odd situation with potential purchase...

SouthernSerpent Mar 01, 2010 09:45 PM

Ok. Wife finds purple albino for sale locally (in state). Looks at pics of the snake. E-mails are exchanged for two days. The deal is priced at $350.00. For some reason they won't let her use paypal and then pick the snake up from the facility in two days time. When told that we would bring cash in hand at time of purchase on Wednesday, they told her that the money would have to be sent first. What gives? Is my money not good enough? Or green enough? This is a breeder by the way. I won't name names on here. I know that's a no no. I have dealt with a number of breeders in various states, and all have been as accomodating as possible when making deals. I find this to be very odd behaviour from a breeder. There has been some negative publicity about this breeder in another fashion in the last year in another form in the news. Anyone have any thoughts on this matter?

Sounds like they need the money to purchase the animal. If walking up with cash in hand to get a snake doesn't cut it then I would be out unless it is someone I have developed a trusting relationship with.

Never done business with them before. Always thought they were overpriced, and have found out on another site that there is some controversy as to who they are and or who they are affiliated with in the past. Again...I am not naming names. Just concerned. I will not do business like that with anyone. I hope that others don't get roped into something like that. Trust me, I keep records and have a very good memory of who we deal with. I will do business with most of those breeders again when the time comes. We are going to wait until the NARBC show in Arlington and check things out there and see what we can come across. Never been to that expo. Can't wait to go.

I would definitely pass. I've had friends who made deals like that in the past with other things and been totally shafted. One of my friends even lost a classic Jeep in a deal like that. He sold it to a guy he worked with, but he let the guy take possession of the Jeep before any money changed hands. Next thing he knew, the guy quit the job and disappeared with the Jeep.
