two questions from formerly chelonian71

BilltheFriesian Mar 11, 2010 04:03 PM

Since I am no longer just into turtles (but other herps too, especially anurans), I changed my screen name again and put part of my ancestry in the name. BTW, if anyone emails me, let me know here, because I had to make a email address to create a new screen name.

First, right after my indoor three-toed eats works, he almost always digs fore end into the Sphagnum. I've seen him do that before, but I've finally recognized the pattern. Does anyone see this in their turtles with worms?

Also, do indoor boxies ALWAYS defecate in water dishes? I've seen no evidence contrary to this until recently, when he pooed in the food dish (formerly not there, since I almost never fed greens, and put worms in the water dish)

My turtles are outdoors and I have both shallow water dishes and a shallow running stream of water for them and they never go to the water just to defecate like a cat to its litter box. My seem to poop wherever the mood strikes them. True, they seem to like to poop in water and it could be because they enjoy washing their tails in water-haven't you ever seen yours moving their hind feet back and forth against their tail while in water? Mine are very adept at it I also see them doing this in wet grass or when it starts to rain. Tess
