Please help ID this gecko

piratecove Mar 13, 2010 11:53 PM

Alright so we caught this little guy on a toolbox outback. I was going to let him go tonight but the weather is pretty nasty so I thought I'd keep him over night with some water, and maybe if I can get some some pinhead crickets. Hes rather small and doesnt seem to have the sticky feet like house geckos. Anybody know what kind he is? Hes realy pretty I'd like to keep him but I'm not sure what kind of care he needs because I'm not sure what he is? lol Thanks BTW we live in las vegas NV so maybe that can help you ID him

Hemidactylus turcicus, a Mediterranean house gecko. If his toe-pads aren't working, perhaps he has dry shed on them--he should be just as good at wall-walking as Hemidactylus frenatus (common house gecko). Not native to your area, of course--these critters are adapted to a much higher humidity.

Thanks for the info, we went and got him a nice little setup and hes doing very well and eating small crickets ^^ Do you think I should feed him some other insects as well? My dragons eat roaches and crickets.
