Breeding size questions

AllenSheehan Mar 15, 2010 11:51 AM

I was curious to know how many of you have been able to get three year old females to succesfully breed? I have an '08 girl that is currently close to the 10' mark. And my hope is she will be 12' plus this time next year when I will attempt to breed her however she will be just shy of three years old. I would really like her to go as she has some great genetics but I was curious to hear what my success rate might be based on others experiance.

Thanks for any input
Allen

my personal opinion is that some people put too much emphasis on breeding size, not breeding age. it is healthier to make sure they are of proper age more than the "need to be 12 feet in size to breed". they will let you know when they are ready. more 9 or 10 feet mainlands breeder better than 12 or 13 feet ones that arent of ideal age. they may have smaller clutches, but it is healthier for the mom and for the little ones

Thanks for the link. I knew three years of age is right on the fence of weather they will breed or not. I guess I will see what happens. I was hoping to hear how many people have or have not had success at three years of age.
