Savu Pythons?

LightElf Mar 18, 2010 09:13 PM

Hi, thinking about getting one, what's your experience with them?

I had one for awhile but traded it in for a smaller python sp (Childrens python) just because the childreni fit my conditions better (where I live the ambient humidity can be a bit on the low side.)

However, the Savu was a real pleasure. Needed more humidity than the childreni, but aside from that was easy to maintain. Really neat color too with a very mottled pattern on the sides and dark color on top. The eyes are just wicked. Great snake for sure, just easier for me to maintain the childrens for reasons mentioned, so I made the trade. (Childrens pythons are drab in color, but they survive all of the husbandry mistakes once can muster!)

I actually did get one on Sat., he's probably like 10 months old or so, really interesting but the only thing is he's been staying under the moss in his terrarium 24/7 since I got him I tried to lift the moss up and get him out but he snapped at me, is the hiding thing normal for this kind of snake recently moved to a new home? Is there n e thing I can do to make him less scared/shy in his terrarium? When I 1st got him I handled him lots, he was really docile and inquisitive, not at all like this...

Ok, be careful about stressing him. He obviously needs to adjust right now. Plus, many snakes, especialy my Blood Python tend to be secretive. It is their nature, afterall.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Oh man. I had a pair for a while when I was a teen. Got 'em from Pro Exotics. Got copulation but never eggs.

I really liked 'em. Good size--impressive but not unmanageable. Nice color. The male was fairly docile but, well...she was unpredictable. Some days she'd be fine, others, she'd put a tree boa to shame.
Only sold 'em cause I got an offer I couldn't refuse from one of my mother's friends.
