I recently purchased a pair of male Ameiva from a vendor at NARBC and have been unable to find the exact species. This classified from Reptiles-N-Critters is exactly what it looks like, but I've never heard of the common name blue and yellow spotted ameiva. Ameiva chaltzami is the listed scientific name. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Maggie

What's the Latin name for a red ameiva? I found red sand ameivas online, but they look nothing like what I have.

red sand has lines down it's back, yellow spotted doesn't.There latin names are unrelated.Red is ameiva chaltzami, red sand is latastia longicaudata.Hopefully the person with the add also changes there pic.

Okay, I get it now. So the species pictured is a yellow spotted? What is the Latin name for yellows?

Common Names are pretty much useless in regards to ameivas(minus green ameiva-which is Ameiva ameiva)

there's some 25 species of ameivas but the whole group needs more work on their taxonomy.

The most common species in the "pet" trade are Ameiva ameiva, Ameiva chaitzami (which is what you pictured) Ameiva undulata and Ameiva festiva.
If you spend time googling images of different ameiva species you will notice the confusion with regards to what species is actually which.
