WOW!!!! That place is horrible. Throw them under the jail. Charge them with cruelty to animals for each and every animal they had there in my opinion. They are very poor representations of what this business/hobby is. I'm just like everyone else, missed a cage cleaning for one reason or another (snakes locked up or just fed) but that entire property looked like some Rob Zombie film (I do like those films though, lol). How can anyone claim they like their animals and keep them like that?

This is strictly my opinion, and it has been for many years. It is far past time, we as a group somehow find a way to self "police" and enforce some sort of standards among ourselves.

Yes, I'm back on the stump for the same old "Self-monitoring Professional Society" thing...for the commercial sector, at least.

It's just not a good idea to have law enforcement, government, and animal rights groups decide the rules and do the house cleaning for us.

Certainly things like this do occur. There are "bad guys" in any field of endeavor, just like there are exceptionally good ones. It is all a matter of statistical inference and the Bell Curve. It should be up to us, ourselves responsible to monitor the standards that WE set and to "throw the bums out". That is, to actually cooperate with Law Enforcement when appropriate.

We need to get proactive on this and get some distance from the outliers.

By the way, I'm not a commercial guy, but I do wish to maintain the ability to keep, breed, buy, sell, and trade Herps as I choose. There are just too many horror stories feeding the AR agenda resulting in proposed legislation that does threaten my future ability to keep, breed, buy, sell, and trade these magnificent animals.

Just my $0.02

"I'm not a commercial guy, but I do wish to maintain the ability to keep, breed, buy, sell, and trade Herps as I choose."

However, at some point, even as a "private breeder", I realize I would be considered "commercial", depending on how much buying and selling activity I chose to engage.

Wow. Just another negative point to add to the ever growing pile of bad reputation the industry has. Greed nipped that one in the bud (all over a doberman, sheesh). If they don't get the permits for the large snakes, what do you think they'll do with the specimens?

Were your posts on this thread deleted?
I've been following this thread and posted on it. Haven't noticed any deletions. Maybe it is your combative attitude? Don't know. Check the TOS for posting.

Certain messages are being deleted. This must stay with the news reports and not bad dealer statements. It is a fine line, but the vast majority of the information (minus the attacks on the folks) are intact.

2. I don't support what they were doing. They got in trouble for taking in dogs off craigslist(and other sites probably), telling the owners that they were going to provide a nice home and whatnot only go back and resell them for an extreme high value. When they got busted for this, it was revealed that the animals were in horrible living conditions. It just adds another negative image to the trade. Quite honestly, I feel embarrassed. : \ I know I'll never buy a reptile or anything else from them, even if does mean that I'll have to ship instead of pick-up.

On top of that, they were breaking a state law or whatever whenever they didn't get permits for the longer snakes. Right now when people are fighting to make sure they can keep on breeding and owning this huge snakes, people like this go an make a negative impact on the imagery of large snake owners.

So on and so on... You get where I'm going on this? -sigh-

OAKDALE COUPLE CITED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF PYTHONS
Release Date: 03/22/2010

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents cited an Oakdale couple on March 20 for allegedly possessing pythons without a permit.

The Allen Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the residence of David Beauchemin, 43, and Tawni Beauchemin, 23, on March 19. The search warrant was issued after the Sheriff's Office received a public complaint alleging the Beauchemin's were illegally selling animals on the Internet. The Beauchemin's residence was portrayed as a safe haven animal shelter.

After executing the search warrant, the APSO contacted LDWF about the pythons found in the residence. LDWF agents cited the Beauchemin's with 22 counts of illegally possessing pythons over 12 feet in length without the required permit. The pythons were seized and will be held at an animal shelter.

The APSO cited David Beauchemin with obstruction of justice after he allegedly tried to stop the search warrant from being executed. APSO also cited the Beauchemin's with fraud for allegedly trafficking animals over the Internet illegally. The APSO said additional charges are pending.

David Beauchemin is being held at the Allen Parish Jail without bond. Tawni Beauchemin was released so that she could tend to the remaining pythons that are under the permit required 12 feet in length and the animals still remaining at the residence.

The public complaint was issued after somebody gave the Beauchemin's a dog for safe haven only to find it listed on the Internet a few days later for sale.

This is crazy!!! I needed to find a new home for my snakes (rock/burm and a boa) and gave them to this breeder who drove all the way to NY to pick them up. This was 5 years ago. I can't believe this. Hopefully, the snakes themselves were not mistreated. Anyone with updates, please post them in a new thread. Thanks..
