More SNOW?!?

curtis9980 Mar 21, 2010 10:31 AM

After multiple snow days here in Dallas this winter, including 11.5 inches in February, I thought we were done with the real cold part of winter. Especially after it had been in the 70's for three weeks with it barely dipping into the low 40's at night. But then this morning came with 6 more inches! Mind you, it will be 61 and sunny tomorrow, it's in the forecast.

This has been the most unpredictable winter I have ever seen here, and that's saying a lot for Dallas. I thought the boxies would pop up any day at the warm weather rate we were going, but this will probably bump it back. I also hope this snow doesn't zap all the new hostas and such I planted in their big enclosure. Ug.

Don't sweat a bit about those Hostas Curtis, that is a near bulletproof plant, hardy as a dandelion.

Will the hostas come back (annual) if they've been mulched pretty good. Last year was my first year with them.

Hostas are perennial, meaning that they will 'come back' every year, barring root rot or voles or other problems.

Annual refers to a plant that has a life cycle of one season.

Thanks Steph,

Actually that was the term (perennial) I was thinking of but through out "annual" because I didn't know how to spell perennial and was to lazy to mess with it. Thanks for the spelling lesson.........

LOL....I actually heard a woman refer to Hostas as (I kid you not) "Hostages". Repeatedly. Still makes me laugh when I think about it.

Yeah, all is fine. I just got a little worried when I saw all that unexpected snow on the ground. I bought four one gallon hostas at Lowe's for only five bucks a piece. Pretty great deal. A one gallon at the nursery I work at are a minimum of 15.99, but there is more selection than Lowe's. Anyway. I'll post pics soon. I still need to do a few more upgrades.
