Outdoor Enclosure Help

massalvaje Mar 24, 2010 11:58 AM

I am looking at making an outdoor pen for my Three-Toed that is just over a year old. I am looking to do a temporary pen for the Summer and then get something more permenant next Spring. I have a scrap sheet of OSB that I was thinking about using for the walls of the enclosure. We have a rather hard clay soil so my plan is to put the OSB 6" into that and then 4"-6" of topsoil/mulch mix on top of the clay stuff. Do you think the wood would last a few months? Do I need to worry about the Turtle digging under the walls?

Thanks for the help,
-Thomas

My guess is that the OSB would last long enough for your needs (one season or less). Certainly isn't a good long term choice, but you knew that.

Don’t worry about them digging out. I have never even seen one try to dig there way out. Worry about them climbing out over the top. You would be surprised at how they can scale a wall. If they have something they can dig there claws into they can climb straight up. It only takes a minute to climb out.
