Very nice! I always wonder in well landscaped enclosures, how often do you even see the turtles?

StephF Mar 25, 2010 06:40 PM

I do not see all of them every day, unless I look hard for them.

This particular enclosure has some comparatively bare areas, too.

I'm starting my new boxie pen in a few weeks. I love yours...can you tell me what kind of plants are in there? Last year I made one for my Redfoot and put a little stream in. My older boxies had to sare it with him. Now I'm going to start on one for them. Your's looks so great and established.

Great looking pen Steph. I'm hoping mine will fill in like yours over the next few years. What kind of plant is that right of the water,....the one thats kind of redish gray????

Boxienuts got it right: it's a Japanese maple (see link for more info on cultivar, etc.)

The tree in the middle of the frame is a dogwood, and some of the low growing plants are Liriope muscari, Podophyllum paltatum, Tricyrtis, Tradescantia, Vinca minor, and, in the pond, Acorus.

What you see in the photo is only about half of the enclosure, and the image is a little deceptive in that the enclosure is about 25' across (L to R)

that looks great, I love the cutleaf japaneese maple, I have had a tough time keeping them alive here in Iowa, on the southeast facing side of the house I have kept 1 alive, others have made it several years but then one bad winter and all i find is dead buds in the spring.
