Ok I got a late start last year on my quest to find a st. helena. This year I'm a bit more prepared. I'm ready to get back out and look. I'm just curious to know when I should really concentrate my efforts. Its late march now, should I wait until april, mid april, or may. I'm sure I'll me out there as much as I can but I just want a confidence booster. To you guys who have found them, what month was it?
Thanks again
Eric

I don't know about that locale, but if you live down there you should be able to maximize your chances by reading what the weather is. partially cloudy days after a heavy rain are very very good. full mooned nights and warm cloudy days are also good.

If you don't live down there...Then I don't know what time of year would be good for that specific locale. It does seem like we are getting an early spring though...

Man I am so jealous right now! Have fun!

Yes I live in Sonoma county. We have been having unpredictable weather, warm days in the high 70s then days of rain, back to back.
thanks

We have had/having lots of unseasonable cold rain. Will this keep the snakes from surfacing? Will they wait it out for warmer weather?

Nope. I will just make the warm times all that much more valuable and there should be some heavy activity. Go hunting on a sunny morning after a heavy rain. Ahh It's beautiful after a heavy rain. The air seems so crisp and clean.

Well went out on Tuesday, all day, and found nada. Everything seemed right though, rocks were getting warm, fence lizards were out, found five lined skinks, and even a ringneck snake. I did so much hiking, squating, neeling, crawling, lifting, replacing, I barely made it out of there. Still it was fun and as soon as the soreness in my legs goes away I'll be back out there. Maybe try a new spot?

Night time lows are still pretty cold. If it is below 40 degrees your chances of finding anything are slim.

Thanks a bunch guys. I'm still holding out for better weather. As soon as we get a streak of warmer weather I'll be back out there.
