Local: Termperment and Activity Levels

kdpboa Mar 30, 2010 06:50 PM

What are the differences in activity levels and temperament of the different localities of GTP's?

A short summary covering these two qualities of the more commonly available localities would be perfect!

Thanks in advance!

I havve 3 different locals. Biak, Sorong and Jaya. A total of 8 Green Trees. All are calm, non agressive. Thats not saying I've never been bitten. For the most part I leave them alone.Ive seen some that can be agressive, but with a lil work do calm down. I hope this helps.

I have heard great things about the temperment of the sorongs. I completely understand that each snake will have it's individual behaviours but would like to find a locale that is generally docile and active.

I have had a variety of reptiles in the past and am really looking forward to possibly acquiring a GTP. They are amazing little creatures!

Please keep your experiences coming!

I have Biaks only and I swear they are the spawn of satan himself. I handle them all the time but it isnt calming them down at all.

I think I am def going to stay away from the biaks! At least for now!

What about activity level differences? Any of the locale more active than the others?

i am no expert... just bought my first green tree 4 months ago biak locale. already she is tame and docile, more so then my carpet pythons. of course ive been bitten once or twice but all baby pythons are nippy. she is truly a joy to hold and work with. just came back from the vet with her for a check up on some broken teeth( missed her prey) and all the girls at the office were going crazy over how pretty and tame she was. personally, i dont believe in mean snakes and if a snake bites you and you dont freak out about it the snake will recognize this and stop biting all together. so my advice is to buy what ever locality you like the best. handle it a few times a week. wear gloves at first if u have to and in no time you will have a tame snake.
