Is that I find reference to this same specific individual animal being found "this past January"...

"This past January"

So, I wonder what happened ? Why was it found in January, and not reported until the very end of March ?

Did they just feel that they had not seeded the papers with enough "fear the snake" articles, and decided to dredge this up and call it news ?

There will be several staged snake finds now as there have been in the past. It serves the purpose of some to do this and gives some media coverage.

Not implying this is but like that trapper who got caught while many do not get caught some do it.
