Boiga Breeding

The last clutch this girl dropped was her first and was with a much smaller male (5'). Only 2/5 eggs were fertile..exact ratio I got after he bred a different female. This boy is 7' and as girthy as an Indigo so I'm curious if the combination of a bigger, more robust male and this not being her first clutch will result in higher egg count and fertility.

I'm also always amazed how much the females swell up during copulation..they must have the hemipenes from hell! She started to shed after a good spraying and he didn't wait for her to finish. They were locked up w/a big ring of shed skin bunched up at their connection point! Not in this pic but after they unlocked she commenced to shed and the next lock-up interrupted the process.

Mangrove Snakes have always been an under rated snake in my opinion. Congrats...How long is the incubation time on the eggs and at what temps?....thanks

Thanks Tom!

Incubation is 100 days at 80F. Manual pipping is recommended as there seems to be quite a few full-term deaths while still in the egg..eerily similar to Gonyosoma. Now that I'm getting clutches on a "regular" basis I hope to figure that portion out over time. I have some 7' Melanotas that are as girthy as a Cribo and are very impressive beasts!

Incubate at 84 DF with high humidity. 100-105 days. Warmer temps give me no problems with hatches.

Swell reminds me of blue beauties copulating.

Are these WC or CB? Hope you get lots of eggs this year.

All my current breeders are acclimated imports. I usually hold off on all treatment for app. 90 days and a few good meals. I don't even try to breed for at least 6-9 mos.....no need adding all that additional stress to imports. IMHO, the larger the import the better they acclimate.
