I live in Charlotte, NC and these snakes keep popping up around my house. Should I worry for my cats??

No, those are absolutely harmless Brown Snakes(Storeria dekayi).

Actually, the snakes are the one's that need to be afraid of your cat. They are very small and easy prey for inquisitive cats.

Looks like the poor little guy had a "run-in" with something already.

Thanks for the reply.

The photo is of a guy who appeared on the first warm day of spring on the concrete patio. Likely he was just getting warm. Yesterday one of our cats brought a second one to the house in her mouth(!). No doubt the first guy was in an altercation with the cats already.

Again, thanks for taking the time to reply!

Just a brown snake, sometimes called DeKays snakes [storia dekayi].Dont worry about those, there nonvenomous and usually pretty placid. Most DeKays snakes will not break 14 inches. It looks like your cat already had a go at the one in the pic. Best bet is to release it in the woods away from the area and out of harms way. Hopefully that wound heals up.
