2010 Super Dwarf Albino Retics!

bristen Apr 05, 2010 09:08 PM

In theory, the parents are actually Dwarf x Super dwarf crosses (both het albino), but they are both around the 9' to 10' mark, which makes these incredible animals a very respectable and manageable size!

We managed to hatch 5 albinos and 8 possible het albinos (66%).

I'm quite excited about this clutch! I don't know this for a fact, but I don't think there are that many that have been produced yet.

Here are some pictures:

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Regards,
Bristen.

What a great clutch to hatch out, I think those Albinos are going to color up really nice,....good odds too! You really can't ask for better results than what you got there, I know I'd be bouncing off the walls....Congratulations! Have you got weights on them yet? Whats the average gram size on them? I'm hoping to breed a Genetic Stripe male to a Super Dwarf female next season, that will be my first breeding attempt with the Retics.

hey Carl, thanks for the comments... I was almost bouncing off the walls... that's pretty close to how it was lol!

As for weights, I should of done that as they were getting out of the eggs, but I will try to do that soon (possibly tonight). They hatched longer than ball pythons, but slimmer so I would not be surprised they would be around the same weight... I'll have to get that done as soon as possible.

As for your project, sounds like a good solid project. From my understanding, the Genetic Stripes do tend to be smaller, kind of like a dwarf, right? Also, is that co-dom or recessive?

Good luck!
Bristen.

Bristen,
Yea, the Genetic Stripes are considered a dwarf, my male is just about 2 years old and is about 6-7 ft, I've been feeding him heavy trying to put some girth on him. Are you working with any other dwarf/super dwarf stuff? I have a dark lavender/light purple Tiger male that only weighed 49 grams when I got him and that was after several meals,...I picked up 3 het females from Gateway City Reptiles that are from a F2 dwarf purple male bred to a super dwarf female and I just picked up a super dwarf Tiger female from Priceless Pythons. I also have 2 superjamp females that are the silver eyed anerythristic (unproven) type and a Tiger female from the same clutch, the Tiger has the bold orange eyes and strong yellow highlights on her body. I want to ad a Platinum/Fire Tiger male that has the super dwarf blood, Priceless Pythons is trying to get a clutch from a SD Platinum/Fire Tiger X SD Tiger, I'm waiting for those.
I wouldn't mind having a male albino out of that clutch of yours. Shoot me an e-mail.

Wow, great ball python projects you got there!! I'm actually mostly into ball pythons and have only a single pair of retics (adult het albinos that had a small dwarf lavender albino male and a wild caught super dwarf female).

You have a lot of very cool retics and a ton of potential... Do you have a web site or a bunch of pictures somewhere? Would love to see them

Bristen.

I have my first clutch of super dwarves in the cooker right now. They are at 78 days right now. Never hatched retics before. What day is safe to cut?
Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom,

I'm actually no expert.. this was my first clutch too! I waited until I got the first slice, then I opened up all the eggs. That's what I've always done with Ball Pythons, and it seems to work so far. That being said, my clutch first sliced on the 78th day. You must be close! What temperature did you use for incubation? I was incubating at 88F..

Good luck and post pictures once they hatch!

Regards,
Bristen.

congrats on getting eggs! How many did you get? I have a pair of super dwarf retics and I am having a hard time finding out what size they need to be to reach sexual maturity. Do you know? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

bristen Apr 20, 2010 06:59 AM

hey! I managed to hatch 13 babies and of the 13, there were 5 albinos and 8 possible hets (66%).

As for sexual maturity, that's a good question... if you have 100% pure SD's, I'd suspect that the male may top out at something like 7' and the females around 8'... since mine have a bit of Dwarf influence, they are a bit bigger than that (male probably around 10' and female probably around 9')... mine were 4 years old, but nobody had tried to pair them up before..

I'm no expert by any means, this is the only pair of retics I have owned... hope it helps and best of luck!

Regards,
Bristen.

Well mine are finally pipping out of the egg. I have 12 new kids to feed. They pipped right at 78 days. I incubated them at 89 degrees. I will get pics of them tonight. One has a solid stripe down its back.
As far as sexual maturity is concerned, I purchased my supers as babies 4 1/2 years ago. I fed them well but did not power feed them. I did put them together at the beginning of last year and they did not seem interested so I just kept feeding them and put them together later on in the year. I only witnessed copulation twice so I wasn't sure if she was going to take. I think they did most of their work at night.
I think 4 years is probably the minimum for breeding the super dwarves as long as they are good and healthy. My female is around eight foot long and isn't even as round as a baseball. The male is just a tad smaller.
I am certainly no expert. I am just giving my opinion based on my experiences.
Hope this helped!
