Female's random tail loss

AndrewFromSoCal Apr 06, 2010 02:05 PM

So, I go to check on my female the other day, who is housed alone in a cage that hasn't changed in years (i.e. there is nothing I can possibly think of that she could have possibly got her tail stuck on). She is fed crested gecko diet, is in a cage with live plants (who have done well the past 3 years, but I am exchanging them with fake soon), and is a very active gecko who eats well.

Bases covered, I think.

Anyway, she had dropped her tail, for some reason. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrew

There could be many reasons why she dropped her tail...from the possibility it was caught in the lid of the cage last time you had it open, to a sudden noise in or outside the house the startled her enough to drop her tail, or maybe the shadow of a bird flying past the window.

If she is otherwise healthy and eating normally, there isn't anything to worry about as most wild crested geckos have lost their tails by the time they reach adulthood. They can function perfectly in all aspects without it.
