caging help

dloper2 Apr 17, 2010 09:44 PM

I have a quick question about caging. I currently have my new ig in a converted dresser (4'tx30"wx18"d). He is 25" at this point; an upgrade is needed. does anyone know of a good place to find a CHEAP cage that would be adequate for about a year or so. If I need to build something I will but I am not too handy so getting something that will be adequate for now would be ideal. any links or past experiences would be great.
thanks

For a "cheap" cage that will be big enough for your Ig, you might consider making a pvc cage, alot of people go this route. One problem with pvc cages though is humidity, if this is the path you decide to take then make sure you do daily misting of your Iguana.

Here is a link showing various different cage ideas.

Ive had my Ig for a year now. I built his cage using 2x4's plywood and mesh but had problems with humidity so I decided to upgrade. Im reusing most of the frame work from the old cage so I decided to build him a temporary one out of PVC. Its not hard to build and not too expensive plus can double as an outdoor enclosure once I finish my upgrade.

I bumped onto this website:

Im using some ideas from there for the new enclosure. Maybe you can get some ideas from there too. Just be aware it can get expensive. Happy building.

If you're having humidity issues in your open air cage you can go to Walgreens and get their ultrasonic humidifier. 1.25" flexible tubing fits in the output opening of the humidifier without any modifications to the humidifier. You can then run the tubing to the top of the cage, loop it around and then drill holes in the tubing. I have this setup on my open air Igg cage and it is working very well. I can send pics if needed. The humidifier will cost about $45.
