First pinky mouse

trex8692 Apr 25, 2010 08:00 PM

I fed my 1.7 year old leo his first f/t pinky mouse today. He ate it without haste.

But i have some questions:

How often should i feed pinkies?

How soon can i feed again after i feed 1 pinky? (i ask because the mouse looks like it'll take alot of room inside the leo's stomach)

Thanks

I would do it to often. It really isnt necessary at all though, I only feed them to my breeding females when they need a little extra weight.

I agree, it isn't necessary for most males. I give them to my breeding females once or twice a month. If I have leftovers I will give them to a male but not more than 1 or 2 a year. High fat content is the problem for males. That same fat gives the girls a caloric boost and of course they are a good source of protein.

Well, what about if my male is looking kinda skinny?

Hes not necessarily scrawny, his tail looks plump. But he doesnt look as "big" as most of the adult leos that i have seen on Youtube and in pictures. (The leos i see online are not of "giant/supergiant" morph)

MY leo is 1.7 years old. That should be a full grown animal right?

Does this mean i should fatten him up with some pinkies?

You can still beef up your male a little with just normal crickets and mealworms. You could try giving him a SMALL amount of butter worms. Just make sure he is eating good vitamin suplimented meals.

Ive tried fattening him up with crickets and mealworms, but it really has no effect.

Ive even tried wax and superworms.

He just really hasnt gotten as big as the ones ive seen on youtube.

I wouldn't worry about it if he is a little thin as long as he is eating well and healthy. Each animal is different, just like people, some are larger than others. Unless he is really skinny he'll be better off in the long run if you avoid the high fat foods.
