Beardie Egg Question

thatliz11 Apr 26, 2010 05:59 AM

Hi, so yesterday I was cleaning out my beardie enclosure and found 3 unfertile eggs. I immediately placed my female in her nesting box. I can still feel eggs inside of her. So far this morning, no eggs, no digging...nothing! She seems calm. Not lithargic. Gave her some veggies and she ate just fine. Am I being over protective? She is just over 2yrs old and this is her first time being gravid. Also my first time going through this too. (If you couldn't tell!) Any pointers, suggestions? Thanks!

If your beardie has a good, healthy body condition, isn't dehydrated to the least, and has a proper diet (with calcium and lighting), then I'd say it's safe to be patient, and let your lizard do it's thing. At this point, the dragon trying to push out an egg and being unable to, would be the bad sign. If your dragon starts to look or act sick (as opposed to normal parturition behavior), then you should be concerned and see a vet.

I should also direct you to post your question on the bearded dragon forum if you havn't already done so. This species is bred so commonly many people have gone through what you are and will have more species specific advice. I have not kept or bred this species.

Goodluck!

Ian
