Russian sand boa ovulation

Miloradovich Apr 27, 2010 12:05 PM

Caught this Black Russian female ovualting over the weekend so I pulled her out for couple of quick pics.
My fingers are crossed for a nice litter from her.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Chris!

That's very neat.

You should count the days from ovulation to birth. It is usually pretty consistent from what I have seen and a much better predictor than counting from the time of mating.

IIRC, it is around 90-95 days for miliaris.

Thanks for the information. I will definately start a countdown for a due date. Have you noticed a post ov shed in your experiences with them?
I have been keeping track with my rosy boas the last couple of breeding seasons and have found that about 80% of them will shed about 3 weeks after ovulation to give me a second indicator in case I miss the actual ovulation. The ones that don't shed after ovulation have all been the smaller litters, usually 3 babies or less.
Thanks again.

Milo,

I hadn't recorded that data so I couldn't say.
