Schneider's skink breeding time!

OliveJewel Apr 27, 2010 01:43 PM

It's the time of the year when the Schneider's skinks will breed if they are going to! I think mine bred, but I am not sure. Are yours? I would love to be one of the lucky few who successfully hatch one. It is so hard to find people interested in breeding them! But I'll keep throwing out hooks 'til I find people so we can form a community forum!

Happy skinking!

Strange, but true! When the carpet cleaner told me that he saw "one lizard biting another" I thought it was a fluke. Then just now I was vacuuming the reptile room and that made the male get in the mood and they copulated within five minutes!

Woo hoo! 2/3 of the way toward captive bred Schneider's skinks! First step, mating-check! Second step, egg laying-check! Now the most nerve-wracking part! Incubating the two eggs when I've NEVER INCUBATED EGGS BEFORE!!!

My reptile room oscillates between 77 and 86. 77 seems too cool for the eggs so I set up an incubator in order to make sure they don't go below 80. It's a plastic tub with an aquarium heater in it. There are cinder blocks in the water with mesh covering the top. On this is placed the deli cup with the eggs in moist vermiculite. Also there is a thermometer and humidity monitor.

Ack! I'm so nervous! But here... we... goooooooooo......!
