Breeding Black Mambas.

cobrafan Apr 28, 2010 01:42 PM

I have a 1.1 adult pair. I put them together since the male went off food this spring and I understand they breed in the spring time in S. Africa. They have not been together very long, but I have not observed any breeding behavior yet. Has anyone here bred D. polylepis, have some advice? Do they need any type cooling or anything of that sort? Any and all info. from those who have had CB breeding success w/ this species would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Drew.

I cool them down in Jan. and then introduce them to each other in March. I found that a short cool down works for mine.

Lower temps( about 10 degrees both night and day temps) in Jan and raise them the end of Feb. Back to normal temps in March.

Then start putting them together. Good luck.

Don't have any pics but have video of ours breeding on youtube. Look under Kentucky Reptile Zoo or KRZ youtube channel for Black Mamba breeding at KRZ.
