I'm guessing female going by the thickness of the tail base, but who knows. I've me a year or so to raise my babies up and maybe we can get a group discount on the ultrasound. Cant wait to see the baby pigs man!
See ya Friday
Congrats on the awesome reptile bro! I'll warn ya they are addictive! I haven't a ton of experience sexing beadeds or gilas yet n its really hard to do with a picture IMO. I tried guessing my own animals sexes as I've raised um and I'm clueless until they start maturing. Even then haven't been accurate.....
Easiest n cheapest way I've found is put two mature animals together in season muzzled with lil'tape n see if they get down or not. With my mature animals male combats been very apparent even though females react aggressive to the males and other females in some cases too. I did notice crazy changes in behavior 4-8 weeks after bringing everyone up from brumation...For what its worth my female beadeds got shorter stocky tails, stock pear shape builds and less girthy necks than my males who still seem to be stretching. Then again both the lizards I'm certain are girls have just exploded for me this spring. I've fed them all they want once a week.
Thanks for the reply Dennis..and yes Im already catching the bug and ready to add more to the collection.I currently have a room and a half full of venomous snakes and plan to reduce my stock to make room for more beadeds and possibly a few pair of gilas lol...that is as soon as I sell off some of my current baby inventory and have some play money
I figured the sex question would be unproductive, but was just looking for a "guess" I picked this one out of 2 "08"s,the other was longer and had a blockish head compared to this one who was from the same clutch and seemed smaller and more bluntly shaped body wise, but was again just crossing fingers and hoping it was a female since my friend above(nine-0-proof) has sexed pairs that I could borrow a male from if I dont have more by then.
again thanks for the time to reply..much appreciated and thanks for the info-like the taping idea, never thought of it to avoid injury of another when introduced. If you are on facebook look me up:

Well Dr Seward taught me the muzzle taping trick, he deserves that credit! His book has worked really well for me as a guide, but his friendship has been priceless with my projects success so far. Super super smart nice guy to say the least and his animals are unbeleivable.
Be careful when applying the tape but about 1/2" thick strip duct tape works well. They can still use thier tongue n drink just not latch on.... I misinterpreted my adult gilas sexes and one lost a finger and almost lost a hand because of it. What ya gonna do live n learn....I'm learning a lot about these animals. Check out this girl's ovulation swell....
I have a nice colony going right now composed of Angeli and Applegate animals, all of them are 5 years plus, except for 2 which are around 3 now. Problem is the wife wants me to get them moved to another beaded knut by summer...total of 7 adult/sub adult animals they are very cool!

Ouch! I had a wife once a long time ago. Personally I like my heloderms better. S whole lot more friendly n prdictable.
Peace
LOL!!! and in the long term they bring money to your bank account instead of take away lol.
My guess is female purely on head size/shape. It's difficult to tell from pictures and I don't have a ton of experience sexing the animals in this way. I had a pair (proven) that was probed and probed correctly althought it's said that's an unreliable method of sexing. I since sold the proven pair (yeah I'm kicking myself for it) and purchased a new pair. I also have the single baby I produced this past season. I have a pair of Reticulated gilas as well but I still like the beadeds better! These guys are far more predictable and I worry less free handling them!

Nice john! and thanks for the reply. If I may ask for those out there with both gilas and beadeds, which do you prefer and why? I am simply asking as I plan to keep both, but have heard all positive in the way of beadeds and little on gilas.
thanks
Scott

I also keep Reticulated Gilas. I have more experience with beadeds then I do gilas. My gilas will allow you to handle them but they will also bite. In my experience Beadeds are much calmer. It's also nice knowing that a beaded can't whip around like a gila can. I like the larger size of the beadeds. I also notice that beadeds will put up more of a threat display while gilas are quick to bite. For example I reach in bare handed into the beaded enclosure. I know what to expect, everytime it's a head bop upward. After that I can grab the animal and handle it no problems, usually with little fuss. They are venomous and you still must be careful. If the animals ever do grab me I'll be in a world of hurt, which is just a risk I'm willing to take. They are not venomous snakes which I also keep.
