I have to ask now

rottenweiler9 Apr 30, 2010 12:00 PM

So over a year ago about 14-15 months ago my blood stopped eating. She was eating Frozen XXL rats once a week. Then she stopped in Jan or Feb 09, since then I have tried to offer food every once in a while and the tounge flickers and I leave it in there to only come back in the morning to find it still there. Temps are normal, but I moved to a bigger cage. I had her out last night to clean her and she does not look skinny, but has lost some size. Any ideas on why she stopped or could start up again.

Have you tried feeding back in the smaller enclosure or in a separate smaller enclosure? Maybe he doesn't like the bigger enclosure?

Have her checked for internal parasites.

Id also re-evaluate my husbandry, cage size, temps.

A XXL rat once a week is a LOT of food for a Blood

I have tried in the smaller cage and that is where she stopped. I wonder if the issue was she just ate to much when I was feeding the XL rats to her, and she just does not want the food. I think I may try going putting her back in the rack and see if she eats then. Temps are where they should be. Thanks for the advice. Sometimes I have to take a step back but do not think.

Any idea how she could have gotten internal parasites, she was captive bred and born, and all my reptiles are, she is the only one not eating. Just curious how that could happen to make sure its not my whole collections.

Thanks again.

Parasites are a possibility but I think your humidity may be too low. Give her a hidebox and try feeding her a fresh killed medium at dusk. Sometimes a snake does this for no apparent reason at all. Is she near a male? may be in breeding mode. You would be suprised at how long these lazy snakes can go without eatting---Not that I recomend not feeding your snake.

I do have males by her but they are not bloods, would that matter. I am going to try the humidity box and see what happens with that. Thanks for the advice.
