trsatrtr May 05, 2010 08:46 PM

I found this little guy in my garage. I am not sure what kind it is. I live in central illinois. Is it a gophersnake?

The pattern matches. Do they have checkered bellies? It looked a little dehydrated when I found it. I don't live near any water, I'm not sure how it made it to my garage. It is sleeping in it's water dish so I think that might be it.

I checked the belly again and the pattern is more of a creacent shape.

Crescent shapes confirms it, not there was any doubt. Water snakes make good pets, the babies can acclimate quite well to captivity. They will eat gold fish and rosy reds.

common name......Northern Water Snake

Thanks for sharing the pic!

I would really recommend that you let it loose in an appropriate water habitat as soon as possible.
