I know a lot of people consider these both junk snakes (water snakes and garters) but both come in many amazing colors and patterns and would make some cool hybrids I think. They are pretty closely related and and have basicly the same care. Whats people's opinions on this, do you think its possible, you interested in trying, and have you ever heard of this before?

I have never seen this cross before, natural or manmade. I do not think they are as similar morphologically as other snakes that are hybridized, even if they do seem to occupy the same general habitats. As far as "junk" snakes, check out the gartersnake and watersnake forums on this site. You will see there are many fans of both, and many interesting morphs of garters and waters have been produced.

I am fans of both, I just know a lot of other snake keepers consider them junk unfortunately. I'd love to get my hands on some of those garters though, wow!

Well, if you look at the popularity and price of some of the "junk" garters, you would think twice. There are quite a few up for sale on the kingsnake.com classifieds. Some not overly expensive like the albino checkered garters and such.

There are no junk snakes period. That is about as bad of a thing as I have ever herd .It also shows no love of snakes just money.

there are no junk snakes. You either like it or not, but none are considered junk IMO. There does seem to be a fad of most casual breeders to work with what they think will make money, not necessarily what they like to keep!! If garters and waters are your thing, rock on!!! I personally dont like their feeding habits enough to keep them, although they are interesting. However, I still work with normal, amel, and snwo corns, which are about as "cheap junk" as you can get these days LOL!!
