high black/wild type Pyros/Zonatas?

Zach_MexMilk May 13, 2010 10:38 PM

I hope I'm not the only one who prefers "wild type" Pyros and Zonatas? Like, the more crossovers, the more black the better? Post pics if you got em!

Ohhh yeahhhhhh......I like them too.......

Tulare County (Sierra) multicincta

male

female

male

Cascade (natural intergrade) zonata

Santa Ana zonata (pulchra)

San Jacinto zonata (parvirubra)

Bass Lake zonata (multicincta) male (gettin' jiggy witha completely confluent female)

Juarez x Martir zonata (agalma) female hypo-E

And give me a good pyro that has wide wite bands with lotsa heavy black crossovers and the flame-red sides.......now that's pretty too....

Jkruse,
that male eating the pink is possibly the best looking zonata i have ever seen...
makes me want to move out of san francisco, out of CA, just to own them haha!

JKruse May 14, 2010 04:55 PM

thanks very much. I agree that lil male is quite a neat snake.....he looks like that all the way down his body. If you look at him froma top view, he looks like a California kingsnake as it's just balck and white. The sides have those amazing red "flames"........but I love 'em all either way.

I really should take a couple better pics of him. I'll do so tonight and post them as he's grown a bit over the last few months. Until then....

locality, age, etc. you know haha. his story, man, his story!

JKruse May 15, 2010 02:46 PM

He's an F1 baby male, Tulare County in the Sierra-Nevada range, and is from a population that typically has high-black w/ really good white. Sierra zonata can vary quite a bit from population to population within their vast range.

This little male eats voraciously. His eventual mate looks almost siimilar to him, but just not as symmetrical. This is my younger pair, and the adult pair is also from Tulare (pictured above). Glad you like him!

awesome! yea, from what I've been seeing via pics online, the Sierra clad can vary with the white on the triads. Like some of the multicincta I've seen pics of have almost a yellow tint to the white.
That F1 male is gonna make some awesome babies.

JKruse May 16, 2010 01:15 AM

Here's his pending mate..........she is a sub-adult but can breed at this point. I will hold her off until next year. She's similar but just not as nice as a whole package.........I could pair her up with the adult male above, however that adult pair is romantically involved as it is and I prefer quality over quantity.

Not a good pic, just snapped it real quick. This is a Kitt Peak female pyro, the male actually is even better than her, more black and whiter white. But he was in shed.

I was taking a glance at your website...are you producing any Kaibab pyros this season? If so, let me know! They look awesome!

BrianS. May 16, 2010 08:56 AM

My Kaibabs are far too small this year, may be close next year. Looking forward to producing from them for sure.

YES! When I first became interested in pyros I wanted snakes that looked like I had just found them under a rock in the mountains!
Herb's pyros:
The aunts and uncles and possible parents to my pyros. Records are a bit foggy...LOL!

Ashton pyros; mated pair

Ashton pyros; mated pair

This old dude was a slow starter but look at him now!

Ashton pyro; 13 year old male

Herb's reduced blacks; not related to the others.

Ashton pyros; reduced black

Zunchara female 08 164 grams

Dotz female 08 115 grams

Zane male 08 60 grams

Zuni female 09 25 grams

Zafina female 09 30 grams

All weights taken 4-15-10 so they are all probably bigger now, as they have all been eating up a storm this spring.

Mazar; unrelated to all the above (from Scott Powley)
male 08 115 grams
Mazar is not so "wild" looking as the others.

Zach_MexMilk May 15, 2010 07:23 PM

Amazing pyros! That one female, Zunchara (sorry, spelling?) is crazy looking haha! Like a Pyro and a L.t.gentilis mixed together haha!
The pyro in the last picture looks just like my male applegate het. I'll get some pics up later

pyromaniac May 15, 2010 09:29 PM

http://www.kingsnake.com/king/triangulum/gentilis.html
I see how she could look like a mix of pyro and gentilis, but she is supposed to be pure pyro, although when the breeder saw her this April during a visit where we showed each other our collections, he didn't think at first she was from his stock. She is my mystery girl! LOL! She is also at the top of my list for future breeding in 2012.

zach_mexmilk May 15, 2010 11:04 PM

oh no, i wasn't saying that i thought it was a hybrid haha! just saying that thats how she looks like.

pyromaniac May 17, 2010 05:30 PM

That's okay, I went back in my records and confirmed she is from Herb and is all pyro. I think she may be the start of something unique and am looking forward to hopefully getting some babies from her in 2012.

crotalusviridis1 May 17, 2010 01:26 PM

That Zunchara is breath taking!!! My oh my....

pyromaniac May 17, 2010 05:27 PM

Thanks! She is a special girl for sure.

A baby picture of her being put in her feeding jar; she ate all her pinks without letting go of my hand. She likes to eat!

pyromaniac May 15, 2010 09:45 PM

I hope this thread keeps on awhile. I love seeing all the beautiful zonatas and pyros!

Zunchara's baby picture from the vendor at his website. I didn't get her at first, I got her two siblings, but then went to this reptile store in person a month later to get another pyro and still rather overlooked her until the young man working there remarked on how pretty she was. The older she gets the better she looks. I feel blessed to have her.
The vendor has since retired but I am now dealing directly with the breeder. Maybe another one like her will pop up! I'll know soon as they hatch this summer.

JKruse May 15, 2010 10:42 PM

that's just great.....wish i had more to share. But I'm enjoying the views regardless.

That's a nice one! She reminds me of the breeder of my pyros plans to create a black snouted pyro, which would then look like a zonata. He is almost there, maybe this season will have a fully black snout one.

Zach_MexMilk May 18, 2010 11:41 AM

that cascade is gorgeous!

i think we should all focus our projects on black snout pyros. how awesome would that be haha! zonata? naw....lol

mckenzieriverrep May 18, 2010 06:36 PM

Yep, I like the cascades. I am hopefully going to acquire some different ssp. Zonata from Jerry later this year.

Pyros...just like Zonatas...hmmm...How much do these blacked nosed things go for? lol

I gotta go check to see if any of the kings layed. *fingers crossed*

Here's one of my favorite Pyros.....I love her black crossovers....

That's a nice one! I like how her bands are think towards the top and gradually thin out towards her stomach.
