albino pack man spit up bloody mass

grdnart May 22, 2010 10:11 AM

I am looking for advice regarding my nearly 6 year old frog (nearly 4 inch girth typical figure). He prefers live pinkies once a month but has refused food last month. I tried again a couple of days ago without interest. He looks normal except this morning a glob of red bloody stuff was laying halfway out his mouth. He gave it up easily and upon examination I wonder if it is a previous meal that did not digest. Eyes are clear, limb movement and breathing look normal. He will only eat something wiggly..I tried crikets and small goldfish which he used to eat when young. I am wondering if there are steps I can take to heal his situation. Thank you for your response in advance.

Start with more details on the frog and the setup. Frog size, age, temps, humidity, etc.

Then change his diet. He needs a large variety of prey, and stay off the goldfish(worse thing ever) and back off on the rodents. Off them smaller prey daily until you get down their feeding routine to something normal.

Lastly, pics of the frog and set up are always a plus.

Best of luck.

Sorry, just re-read the O and see the size and age. If he has been on this diet for 6 years, then it could be a losing battle depending on the damage already done which we can't visibly see.

Thank you for your response. He is an Albino pack man. 6 years old. He lives in a one gal tank which has a heat pad beneath. Only one water dish that he fits nicely about 1/2 inch depth. There are moist paper towels as bedding that are changed daily.
When small he ate goldfish after about 2years he prefered pinks or very youn fuzzies. He refuses crickets (odd I thought) and only take live wiggly food. He just eats pinkies about one every 2 to 3 weeks. He looks pretty good now but a bit larger on one side of his belly. He still chirps at night a few times. That bloody stuff had me alarmed. I kinda looked like an old pinkie as up chuck. What do you suggest I feed him? Thanks boat loads.
