What ever happened to...

mturner01 May 22, 2010 11:37 PM

The high color, specialty Dumeril projects that used to be floating around? What happened to the hypo (Arancio?) Dumerils and the patternless Dums, and the high pink/orange line breds, etc.?

Anybody seen these or other highlights lately?

Here are some pics of my very red/ hypo looking line and some other stuff. I breed them this year so hopefully she took. I also am working with a Dwarf line the female is tiny. She looks like she will be laying anytime now. I also am working with Patternless. I think it is a Male genetic Trait. 3 yrs now and I can not produce a female. Thanks

I can tell you exactly what happened to the "Hypo" Dumerils. Jason of Classic Dums supposedly put her on breeding loan and when she came back she was super thin. He put her up for sale and since I have the original female, a group of her siblings (which have produced hypos), and this "hypo" came with the original male, I decided to pick her and him up. I met him at the show in DuPage, when it was cold out, he had stayed all night in his truck with her and we got there first thing in the morning. As we were driving home, she started to warm up and started crackling, wheezing, gaping, etc. I got her home within 3 hours, took some pics, sent them to Jason telling him how bad off she was. Even took a video of all of this and sent that to him as well. Went to dinner with my family, came home and she was DEAD! He asked me what I had done to her (with video evidence of this massive respiratory infection that I must have induced to the point of death in less than 12 hours), and when I wanted a refund on her, he said I just had buyers remorse. So, there's where the original "hypo" female is....in my freezer, pics available on request!!! But, I now have the original producing pair, and several siblings, and some outcrossed possible hets. Good times!!!

Those reds look good, I have a similar looking proven female under 4' in length that just ovulated bred to a "pastel" type reduced pattern/patternless male. I've also never seen a reduced/patternless Female. That males last breeding attempt to the original hypos mother resulted in slugs, so I don't have high hopes on that one at all. Do have the original hypo parents back together though, and some other animals from that line. I haven't tried much in the last couple seasons, so we'll see what happens this year.

I still have my male hypo born in 2002. I have not been able to produce any viable babies with him. He is not as pretty as was when he was young but is still pretty good.

Wow! Didnt realize there was a hypo out there. I think its cool that people are getting some genetic variation out of the few dum lines that are out there.

So, has anybody ever come across any of their dumerils with mostly black stomachs? I have two which have this, a female which is a beautiful grey blue color with orange/brown but no pinks or bright colors and a younger one, most likely male but i need to get it resexed as I got a pair as babies and they got switched around, which has a bright pink almost red head and the upper sides close to the head exhibit this as well, and he has what looks like black smudges on his back. He has a prodominently black stomach as well. Both the male and the female with the black tummy came from the same place so Im hoping to prove it out and see if something comes from it, but, has anyone had dums which exhibit this coloration?

Someone thought that maybe they could be mixed with a madascar and so thus exhibiting this but I have not found photos of a madgascar ground boa underside.

None of my other dumerils, including the sibling of one of the ones above, have this, so, Im thinking maybe co-dom if it turns out to be anything?

Wish I could post pics but dont have the time at this current moment but could next week.

Thanks!

As far as double checking the sex, just look for the spurs on the male. The belly, I have some that have pretty black bellys where the speckling has increased and is pretty dominant, but it's not a solid black covering. Pics would help to see exactly the level of black that's going on. Hope whatever you end up doing with them producing some more good looking Dumerils though. Take care
