musk turtle with floating rear end

mcquadmike May 23, 2010 01:45 AM

I just got a musk turtle a week ago and since I've had him his rear end floats all the time.He is never flat on the bottom or when he's swimming it seems like his rear end gives him trouble by floating higher than his body.He was neglected before I got him so that may be part of the problem.Could someone tell me what they think is wrong with him and what I can do to resolve the problem?Thank you

Only a vet can diagnose the turtle we can only guess. Do you know any history of the turtle ie. How long has it had this condition? Here are a couple of guesses,it could be a swim bladder issue, also it may be a dietary issue, but it can be something that particular individual just does,or a past injury. Does it have sufaces to climb on instead of swimming muds/musk aren't strong swimmers & most swim akwardly anyway. The only sure way to know is get a vet to check.
