Not allowed to have any venomous that is not indigenous to the state without a permit. You probably will not be able to get a permit.

Please find this information out BEFORE getting an animal!

This makes us all look bad when someone posts on a public forum and says "Hey! I didn't take the time to research things before I bought this snake. I'm breaking the law!"

Our hobby is doomed.

contact your local fish and wildlife. They can point you in the right direction, but getting permits can be tough. If native species are legal then you might be better off looking into one of them

I would start out by contacting the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. They can give you a definitive answer. Ask them what the laws and or licensing requirements are for native and non native venomous.
If a permit is needed, I would be surprised if you can't get it. Provided that you are 18 and can demonstrate some knowledge in the care for a venomous reptile.
