Having trouble feeding boxie

joann42 May 31, 2010 11:05 AM

I was given a ornate box turtle that some kid owned for awhile.I have her in a rubbermaid bin and am currently building her a turtle garden.I am having some trouble with the food issue.Im picking greens out of the yard and feeding mealies and worms etc whatever I find, she loves strawberries and mulberries as well....But I need a recipe that I can use daily.Something I dont have to dig outside for.The mealworms dont last long enough and I cant get them locally.I tried catfood and its a no go.I gave her some tuna and she loved it but cant imagine its good for her with all the salt in it.

Any ideas or recipes? Also how much should she be eating daily, like a tablespoon or quarter cup.She is about three/four inches across the bottom of her shell.

I make a mix of soaked mazuri, chopped greens, (spring mix, escarole, dandelion etc), chopped veggies, (any veg. except spinach and cabbage), fruit (berries, mango, melons etc) I mix it all up and make balls the size of meatballs and freeze them. I take it out and defrost it and my boxies love it. I also sprinkle some calcium powder on it. I feed this to my Redfoot too.
