Attaching perches to glass

blueta Jun 03, 2010 09:25 AM

Is there any way to attach perches to a glass aquarium and be stable enough to hold an adult aru? I guess I could try and drill the sides but I would like to avoid that all together if possible.

Or if anyone has any pics of different ways they made stable "natural" looking perches.

I've been using plastic closet rod holders from the hardware store, Lowe's, Home Depot etc. You can silacone them to the glass and they'll easily hold an adult chondro or emerald. Below is a picture of one of the enclosures. Perches are made from hexagonal PVC rod cut to lenght to fit snugly between the holders. This method also allows you to remove the animal while it is still on the perch making life a bit less stressful for you and the snake. Hope that helps.

Why the hex perches, as opposed to round?

I use the hex as it gives the animals a bit more grip than smooth round perches. I've watched animals slide around a smooth perch while appearing as though they are gripping with all their might. The animals seem more comfortable on somthing with a bit of grip and they are still very easy to clean. Hope that helps.
