just looking to spice up the fourm

So I just recently got a large male Therasops jaksoni. (Jaksons tree snake). Well it is next to impossible to find a female. I was just curious. I do not agree with hybrids. But Dr Brian Fry says they are closely related to Boomslangs. Jaksoni are not considered venomous (medicaly anyway). If these two were crossed that would answer peoples question to wether or not a nonvenomous snake can cross with a venomous snake. I think it could be done only in a case like this. I am in no way looking to upset people or start an argument. Just throw around some food for thought.

In a word, NO...don't consider it. ...please...

While probably not capable of a fatal bite on an adult under most conditions, T. jacksoni are capable of inflicting a fairly serious bite with significant swelling and some tissue damage and bleeding due to the anticoagulant properties of the venom.

Dont worry I wont do it (I promise). With that reaction. I guess most people here agree it could possibly be done. Yes Jaksoni venom is very close to boomslang venom. Just a poor delivery system. I read a post on another website recently that asked that stupid question "Can a venomous snake be breed with a nonvenomous snake?" somehow this idea poped into my head as one of the only few possibilites. Thanks guys

>>"Can a venomous snake be breed with a nonvenomous snake?"

Doesn't apply in this case anyway. Even if it could be done, which most likely it could be, Jackson's aren't nonvenomous snakes. They are rear-fanged venomous snakes just like boomslangs, only real difference is what you pointed out: the delivery system. To truly answer that question, you'd have to breed a kingsnake to a copperhead or some other such nonsense.

To the original question, I don't really see the point in mating a Jackson's with a boomslang. They look so similar anyway, it's not as though the hybrid offspring would be very distinct from either parent species.

Typically, the questions I see are like "can a rattlesnake cross with a bull snake" or somesuch. The answer is "no", but only because the two are not closely related, not because one is venomous. If you happen to come up with two closely related snakes where one were venomous and the other not, that would be a different question and I think few would dispute that they could cross.
