Restless Blood

gothic5 Jun 03, 2010 09:43 PM

My snake has been very restless.I have her in an AP T-10.She uses all her body strength while pressing her nose against the glass coming close to overturning the kitty litter box.She is now over 4 feet.My problem is I live in a basement.I would let her walk around on the floor but I have so much junk and it's just not the right environment to let her.I usually take her out for a soak and then she sits on a towel on my bed.Obviously she wants to be out of the cage. But she does this after the soak. I feel like I should let her out to crawl around but sometimes I don't feel like taking her out more than once a day.Can Bloods live solitary lives comfortably?Would a mate possibly help? Harold

Either she is hungry or the cage is too warm-bloods seem to prefer cooler temps. They are solitary animals except at breeding. Bill

I agree, what are your temps?

I used to house mine in T-10's and had an animal that would push like that.

I lowered the hot spot down to 84 I believe and covered half the cage front with paper to make it darker, he eventually stopped.

make sure the cage is clean too, some of mine would try to push their way out after having peed or pooped.

I have the temperature set to 81.I noticed she does do this after a poop and now thats the first thing I do is check when I see this.I use eco-earth coconut fiber as a substrate. Some people have told me they don't use substrates and a radiant heat panel over the water dish will create humidity. But what about in the summer when the panel might not be hot?My T-10 also has side vents. But I have been using the coconut fiber.I clean as best as I can after a poop. After a short time the fiber loses its earthy smell.I test the smell daily and can't be sure if it contains urine.Cleaning the cage and changing the substrates and cleaning the glass is a big job.I also usually soak the cage bottom in an inch of water and bleach while wiping the interior.I sit there with a large sponge draining the water after.I do this about every 3 weeks.Maybe I'll use half a brick of eco-earth to reduce the cleaning.Bloods are very nice snakes but they sure require a lot of maintenance-Harold
