should be genetic....deer ,dogs, and other snakes it is....goats also.....fishes?....are there pied fishes?.....hmmm.....think man think...LOL....maybe sorta.....

some mutations occur in the body(somatic) cells only these would be inherited....if the mutation is indeed in the gamete(germ) cells....then badda-bing the mutation is inherited.....this will be proven by the breeding...the mutation could be dominant.....recessive or co-dominant or anyone of the variety of genetic mechanisms being described...

Hmmm... if memory serves me right, there was a calico corn morph a few years back that was NOT genetic. It was actually like a virus that caused the scales to turn white and off textured. I believe the snakes with this affliction eventually died premature. Dont quote me on this!!! So, this piebald garter may actually be suffering from some sort of viral affliction causing the loss of color in the scales. Only way to prove genetically is through trial breedings.

Yeah right there are lots of possibilities and possible outcomes, genetically inheritable and/or NOT from that snake, but first things first lets hope the new owner will keep it alive and then have a sucessful breedings to prove out or not.
