Is it just me? I kept a couple southern blacks, and they take foorreeevvveeerrr to get big. I caught several juvinile northern blacks and they are putting size on alot faster.
northern blacks are awesome once they get over the 5.5 ft mark!
For notherns I have one male that was banged up and dehyrated when it was given to me, one female with one eye, and 2 juviniles around 2 feet.

cool. i have never seen a 5.5 footer. automobiles and farm machinery seem to get them before they reach that size. biggest black racers i have seen are a tad bit over 4 feet i'd guess.

I've never seen one that big, but would like to. Most of the racers I've seen were about 3-1/2 feet. Here's a pic of one that I found in central Ohio last year:
