keeping Dumerils in pairs?

Technohydra Jun 22, 2010 11:53 AM

Heya keepers. My wife and I have a 3 foot Dumerils male, and we just got in our female at about 18". I've read that you can keep pairs together full-time, but the size difference makes me nervous. Can anyone recommend a good way to get these two social, or do we just need them apart until they get closer in size?

We're setting up a 55 gallon for them tonight, peat moss and undertank heater ready to go, so there should be pleant of burrowing space and 'leg' room for now. Once we're all set up, pictures are a definite.

As a PS, can I get in the know about the sig numbers, like where folks would post something like:
Dumerils boa: 1.1.0? Newb question, I know, but if I'm going to post here, I want to do things right, lol. Thanks a lot folk.

You can house Dumerils boas of similar size together. The size difference between your two Dumerils boas is borderline. Your safest choice is to house them individually for now, but you can try keeping them together as long as you watch things closely. If you decide to keep them together, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. You need multiple hides so they each have a place to go. Also, you have to separate them when you feed them. I keep my Dumerils together and never had any problems. The male was 3 years older and a little territorial when the female would try and crawl in his hide with him, but they quickly got used to each other. I hope this helps out. Also, about your signature. It works like this:

1.2.3 Dumerils

1 Male.2 Females.3 Unknown Sex

You would put:

1.1 Dumerils

We tried a close encounter outside of the tanks, and had minimal interst between them. I think we'll keep her in the 33 gallon for now and move Jet into the 55 until our girl can eat a few steak dinners. No sense taking chances for the sake of convieneince.

As for the sig, I think I have it right. Should be everything in the arsenal right now, excluding or rats for breeding snake food. Small collection, I know, but for our first year, that's pretty good, especially in central Nebraska.
