education opportunities

Hey everyone,
I just thought I'd post on here to see if anyone could give me any advice about any great organizations and schools that really deal with herps or inverts. I'll soon be graduating college, and would loveeee to get into some type of herp or insect research. Anyone know of any great organizations that do this type of stuff? I also definitely want to go to grad school- anyone have any advice on schools with great wildlife or entomology programs? I'm not too sure of anyones education backgrounds on here, or whether or not anyone went to school for this type of stuff, but if anyone has any input I'd love to hear! Thanks!

It really depends on what type of animal you're interested in and what you want to do with them. Are you interested in husbandry, local populations, behavior, etc.? Look up schools that offer biology and zoology programs and that offer herpetology courses. Then check out the faculty and read about their research. That should help you get an idea of what you're interested in doing and where to start looking to apply for graduate school. If you're applying to grad school, get started EARLY-at least start seriously looking at schools and contacting faculty about a year in advance.

Hey,

Oregon state university has zoology and fisheries and wildlife programs. Unfortunately, they only have herpetology and systematics of herps, but they also have classes on population dynamics and stuff.
