Striped mud turtle prices?

BosleyBugg Jun 24, 2010 10:22 AM

I've been looking for a striped mud turtle and most of the babies I found were $10-$20 each, and the two most expensive places I saw them they were $40 each. I live in Canada and I couldn't get any from these places though, because shipping would have been an issue. When I found a guy with some I would be able to get, he was asking $100 each! I couldn't believe it. Another guy wanted $100 for an old WC male, and a guy I've been emailing now wants $110 each for his babies and $150 for his adults. What's a normal price for striped mud turtles?! It's driving me crazy, I've been looking for one for a long time but these prices seem ridiculous. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a striped mud turtle or a Mississippi mud turtle for a reasonable price?

anything cheaper, and you'll have to deal with shipping.i've never gotten or sent a herp to another country, but i imagine that there's plenty of hoops to jump through to do it.have you considered a road trip to the U.S.,and just pick one up here cheaper?

I live in Canada too and it does suck when you compare the prices between the two countries. There is a lot of red tape involved in trying to import a turtle from the USA even if you drive and bring it across the border yourself. I think most of the muds and musk that you see in Canada have been smuggled in or captive breed from smuggled parents. I have about 20 musk and muds in my collection and I paid around $100 for each of them. The only thing I can add is that $100 is really not the much when you consider how long they live for, and how entertaining they are. Good Luck
